Two weeks ago, Democrats were given hopeful signals that the Senate Parliamentarian would approve their proposals for undocumented immigrants to be included in a “human infrastructure bill.” We’ve reported on these proposals on our blog, including allowing millions of undocumented people to apply for work permits and permission to travel.
While the official ruling has yet to come out, the Parliamentarian hasn’t ruled out including the revised proposals in the Build Back Better agenda. This marks the best sign yet from the Senate referee, who did not approve the previous two versions of the immigration proposals. The initial plans offered a pathway to citizenship, and the followup plan offered green cards for a few undocumented immigrants. Both plans were rejected by the Parliamentarian.
